Illinois - Distance Learning CADP, CCJP, CADC & CRADC Training & Certification

ICDS offers the required curriculum to obtain your CCJP, CRADC, CADP and CADC status in the state of Illinois.Illinois - CADP, CCJP, CADC & CRADC Training & Certification

CADP - Certified Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Professional

CCJP - Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional

CADC - Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor

CRADC - Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor

In the state of Illinois, you are able to pursue your career as a certified alcohol and other drug abuse counselor (CADC) or pursue a reciprocal credential which would transfer for use outside of Illinois, the certified reciprocal alcohol and other drug abuse counselor certification (CRADC). The primary difference is 30 additional hours of education, 150 additional supervision hours, 2,000 hours additional work experience, and the completion of the ICRC exams in addition to the completion of the Illinois CADC exam for the reciprocal credential.

Your path to becoming a Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) or Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CRADC)

Step 1 Complete the four courses of ICDS training
300 hours
6 months-one year
Step 2 Work in an addiction counseling environment (must include 150-300 hours of supervised practical training.
4-6,000 hours
2-3 years
Step 3 Complete the written and/or the written and oral test to obtain your CADC or CRADC certification

Your path to becoming a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP)

Step 1 Complete the appropriate ICDS courses. ICDS will assist you with evaluating which courses you need.
60-270 hours
1-12 months
Step 2 Work in a criminal justice addiction counseling environment (must include up to 200 hours of supervised practical training).
50-6,000 hours
2 months - 3 years
Step 3 Complete the written test and becomne a CCJP

Steps 2 and 3 often overlap.

Your path to becoming a Certified Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Preventionist (CADP)

Step 1 Complete 50 hours of ATODA training and 50 hours of prevention specific training through ICDS
100 hours
2-6 months
Step 2 Volunteer experience supervised by an IAODAPCA approved Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse (ATODA) professional.
120 hours
2-3 months
Step 3 Work in a prevention environment supervised by an IAODAPCA approved Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse (ATODA) professional. 1,000 hours
6 months
Step 4 Complete the IC&RC written test to become a CADP
