How it works
1. Choose the independent studies you would like to order from the selection below by adding them to your cart
2. When you are finished shopping, double check your order and click 'proceed to checkout.' You do not need a paypal account. On the left is a link to pay with your credit card.
3. After receiving your order, we will email you the course materials (if you prefer mail, contact us to make arrangements) which include text, exam and an evaluation form. Orders are processed from 9:00am-4:30pm CST monday-friday. All contact information is included and we will assist you with any problems or questions.
4. Send us the completed test and evaluation form through email, fax or USPO
-Tests are graded between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. CST;
-CEUs are awarded to those who achieve 70% or higher;
-Certificates are sent promptly and as quickly as possible through email, fax or USPO;
-There is a $5.95 handling fee if one course is ordered, an $8.95 handling fee if two to five courses are ordered and a $10.95 handling fee if six or more are ordered;

Description of Courses:
1. The 12 Core Functions of a Counselor
- Understand each of the twelve core functions and its global criteria.
- Identify and better understand the purpose of each core function.
- Be knowledgeable in the terms used in the core functions, and how they apply to practical application in treatment of substance abuse.
- Familiarize the participants in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and be familiar with the criteria for substance abuse vs. substance dependence.

- Understand the process of an intervention and its projected outcomes.
- Identify appropriate forms of interventions to be used.
- Be knowledgeable in the terms used in interventions and their meaning.

3. How to Document Counseling Sessions
- Identify the different types of documentation, and what purpose each serves.
- Explain the basic functions of documentation.
